About James
Background, experience, and the story so far
James Mwangi Kariuki is a development economist, community organizer, and lifelong resident of Laikipia East. Born and raised in Nanyuki, he has spent the last fifteen years working on rural healthcare and water access projects across the constituency.
After completing his degree at the University of Nairobi, James returned home to run a community SACCO that grew to serve over 8,000 members. His work building boreholes, mentoring youth groups, and championing maternal health earned him a reputation as a leader who shows up and finishes what he starts.
He is contesting the Laikipia East parliamentary seat to bring that same hands-on, results-driven leadership to the National Assembly — with a clear, costed agenda for healthcare, roads, education, and jobs.
The Manifesto
Six costed priorities for Laikipia East
A fully-staffed health centre in every ward, free maternal care, and a 24-hour ambulance network linking Nanyuki to rural dispensaries.
200km of all-weather and tarmac roads in five years, prioritising market-access routes and connecting farms to the Nanyuki hub.
Bursaries for 10,000 students a year, three new ECDE centres per ward, and a constituency tech-skills bootcamp for school leavers.
Boreholes and piped water to the dry zones of Mukogodo and Sosian, plus rehabilitation of stalled community water projects.
A constituency enterprise fund, digital work hubs in every ward, and partnerships to place 2,000 youth in apprenticeships.
Subsidised inputs, cold-storage at key markets, and direct buyer linkages so farmers keep more of what they earn.
